About Roberta Hewson
Peacefully, at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, a bright and independent light has faded.
To safeguard her memory, Roberta leaves her mother Shirley Hujwan and her much-beloved little sister Dr. Maxine Carlisle, of whom Roberta was most proud. Left to mourn are also her older sister Linda Spina(Stano), of Winnipeg and brother Michael Hujwan(Ann), of Burlington. Roberta was pre-deceased by her father Michael Hujwan in 1997 and by her most beloved companion, Josh, in 2012, the absolute joy of her life.
Her extended family includes nieces Kate Buechler(Greg) of Winnipeg, Carrie Hujwan(Max) of Calgary, Andrea Korol(Mike) of Burlington and nephews Matthew Buechler of Ottawa and Philip Buechler(Vicki) of Winnipeg.
Roberta always fearlessly charted her own course, learning along the way and making a satisfying life for herself. From ten years spent living in Toronto working in restaurant management, to four years in Halifax, as a hotel outlet manager, followed by two years teaching English in the Dominican Republic, this free spirit lived life to the fullest. The adventures continued with some time spent in Greece, then on to Ottawa where she found a new passion working with the Native Women's Association.
Ultimately returning home to settle in Winnipeg, she dedicated herself to employment issues that advance all Indigenous people in Canada. It is especially through her employment with the incredible team at the Aboriginal Human Resources Council (AHRC) and through Kocihta, the AHRC's charitable organization, that she found her true calling.
Consider a gift to Kocihta, https://aboriginalhr.ca/en/support-cause or a donation to Career Trek as a way to continue Roberta's commitment to the advancement of Indigenous people and youth.
